Gemscale Troubleshooting |
|
The scale calibrated to 50.00, but subsequent Numbers when weighing gemstones are in error by more than +/-.01.
Diagnosis |
Solution |
Shut off the scale and recalibrate using the 50.00 Carat weight. | If this is all you have to do, you have already corrected the problem by manually recalibrating the scale. The scale experienced a disruption from the environment during its first calibration. Do no more. |
It is possible (even likely) that you have mixed up parcels, or that the parcel or stone you are testing the scale with, has an incorrect weight itself. | Double-check your standard or try another one. |
It is also possible that your 50 Carat Calibration weight is wrong, or has been tampered with. If you have an alternate 50 Carat (10 gram) weight, see what it reads on the scale. If you have a set of precision weights, or some large stones of varying known weights, try intermediate weights, such as 25 Carats (5 grams), 15 Carats (3 grams) and 10 Carats (2 grams). | If the readings are wrong only in between the Zero and Full-Scale (50.00) readings (e.g., 25.01, 15.01, 10.01), then you have a linearity problem. Return the scale for computer recalibration. |
On the other hand, if you see errors that get larger as the weight gets larger, you likely have a bad calibration weight. | We will be happy to sell you a replacement weight to get your scale back working for you again. |
